It was supposed to speed up the installation process back in the day.
But since many people here have fast computers (by 2001 standards) and people don't have an SSD, that statement isn't worth shit.

Why do they do this?
It's not like there's a dozen other application from whatever company to go in one of those sub directories.
In some cases it's the only damn program made by xyz company.
EVEN IF you had multiple programs from said company that many sub directories is just superfluous, which is to say that you want to install them all in tyhe same general sub directory in the first place.

No man, think of all the casual flash games and shit like that. Also, the mouse is pretty fucking casual. FPS are different 'cause it heavily requires the keyboard too, but for RTS and many other games - even the beloved adventure game - it's the mouse and two buttons all the way, baby. Uhhhhh... That was so predictable. The point is, it's all on-screen icons and two buttons controls. Yes, hotkeys are incredibly useful on harder levels and a requirement against good human opponents, but the point is the game is still based on the PC equivalent of a Wiimote - but with less buttons.

Even the classic old PC games like Gabriel Knight and many of the games on GOG, basically, are played with two buttons and a helpful cursor that you simply point and click.

GFWL, well, we all know what a piece of shit it is, and Steam constantly has network issues.

GameSpy? All it does is give you a lobby so you can connect to games more easily.

I'm just saying that the criteria for casual basically shifts so much, it boils down to "games I don't like". If you use the actual meaning of the world in this context properly, that is "a game played by someone who does not normally play games" then PC games are right up there. For one thing, most homes have a PC even if no gamers are there. A gamer-free house will not have an Xbox or PS3 or even a Wii; with the latter, they've still consciously thought "I want to play games, I will buy this specific item" but with a PC they already have it.

The Sims is casual because of the nature of the gameplay and the aim - to have a nice house and a good social life. These are aims recognisable by every housewife and 13 year old girl. The aim of "Stop the Flood before they take Earth!!11" is not. The aim of "Rescue the Princess from the giant turtle motherfucker" is not. The aim of "Help the Nameless One regain his memories of his true self" is not. But then something actually quite complex like SimCity IS simply because the subject matter means something to the average, non-geeky person. Build a city, use pretty much only one button - here we go!

A bit off topic, but this reminds me of something I read a while back. In the UK, if for example you have some terms and conditions on a website (let's say a shop) that you aren't "forced" to read, then they can become unenforcable.

By "forced", what I mean is consider this:

Website A: Link to T&C somewhere on the site like near the bottom. "Tick here to agree to the T&C" on a checkout page.
Website B: Shows you the T&C on one of the checkout pages, then followed by "Tick here to confirm you have read and agree to the T&C"

Website B has no problems, whereas the terms in website A may be unenforcable.

There's also something about terms and conditions being "durable". Something to do with having a button to print them.

Just thought that'd be interesting for anyone who hates EULAs and that sort of thing

I do know what he means, although it's not as simple as ALL load times being good like that. If you're drinking some beers or smoking or something, that's your chance. I do it a lot while play New Vegas. Or if friends are around, it tends to be when you start talking about something other than what's happening in the game. It's obviously not a "feature" of the game or a reason to intentionally put load times in if you could avoid them, but it's something I don't think the PC gamers sitting in the near-dark, illuminated only by their monitor, will realise about a lot of shortcomings.

I guess you could say it's like how having to stop to refuel your car is also when people stretch their legs, have a piss or a smoke, grab a snack, make a phone call or whatever.

Mouse and Keyboard actually does work with two hands. Nobody uses just the mouse for non-casual games. But I will stop to take a drink or have some food whether I'm on my PC or a console.

I simply hit Esc or Start, unless I'm watching a cutscene or there's no active combat or anything else allows me to just leave the game running.

How do you run a multi user system if everyone shares the same configurations and saves for everything?

I know YOU probably don't run a multi-user system, but a lot of people do.

No, it still does that with the Admin account. The UAC just doesn't like anyone and has to be turned off for pretty much anything that requires major system changes, which includes IE since it is so integrated.

Either that or you can use the Admin root access through command prompt, which is what I had to do to install Applocate.

"Reticulating Splines", which means to make a network of splines. Will Wright has stated in an interview that the game does not actually reticulate splines when generating terrain, and he just inserted the phrase because it "sounded cool".

sorry i had to go eat.
it was actually a bit more complicated than that; one of my friends already had me in his friends list and i had him in mine if i remember correctly. i guess it was because we used to play generals together. anyway, i tried to invite him to a borderlands lobby and he tried to invite me, neither worked so i looked up whether there were any ports i needed to forward, and apparently there were, so i forwarded them and it still didn't work. then i tried re-adding him to my list but after deleting him i couldn't add him again even though he did get my friend request.
only after that did we think of adding each other on comrade as i just remembered.
so why would it not work when we already had each other in our respective friends lists, then work when we readded each other? i'm guessing it's gamespy's handling of older accounts since it wasn't even easy to get back into my old account on comrade, it didn't accept any of the passwords i've ever used.
borderlands did have a terrible interface in general though what with the chat being on the right hand side of the screen, far from every other component of the HUD and the inability to read recent messages after they've faded.

It's not about how many buttons there are, it's about how you have to use them. In a good RTS you're still managing macro and micro at the same time. The controls might be simple, but the game itself isn't. That's like saying The Typing of the Dead is the hardest game ever just because you have to use a whole bunch of keys on the keyboard. PROTIP: it isn't.

This same shit happened to me. After I finished patching it to get past a game breaking bug my saves broke. So I made a new one. Got to the part where you fight off the spirit army in MotB and had to return to the witches. The trigger that starts the conversation never fired, so I just ran into another game breaking bug. There's no way around that bug except by trying to trigger the event through console. It didn't work.
