I had found a link to episode 8 yesterday, enjoyed it a lot despite the poor quality and excessive size.

Was looking foward start a thread today and share with whoever's around that likes the show.

But the whole shit CN pulled depressed me.

Give me a moment, will search the links.

I liked the moments between Astrid and Hiccup.

Fishlegs also stands out. The friendship he has been developing with Astrid and Hiccup is starting to show.

Depends on what you like.

What I wanted out of the show was character stuff from the ensemble, which I think it delivers (not to the extent I wanted, but I still think what it gives is great).

Most of /co/ wanted action, adventure and exploring, of which so far has delivered very little.

It's fine. Got off to a rocky start (wasn't unwatchable just bland and sort of redundant) but the recent episodes are a definite improvement.

/co/ has been labeling it as boring and dreamworks pandering.

And then CN decided to put DC Nation on hiatus and replace it with 1 hour of DROB.

I was pissed off, becasue I like GLTAS a lot (my favourite show this year).

To make things worse, the Dragons episodes are reruns, and they are out of order to boot.

I never thought so.

I like how it makes the transition of Berk from "we kill dragons" to "we like dragons" more natural.

Don't get me wrong, I love the ending of the movie, but it's a bit too perfect and it takes away from Hiccup's acomplishment when all of Berk suddenly became acostumed to the dragons while he was in coma.

Oh no I agree with you. Thing is that realistic doesn't necessarily make for good entertainment; we ended up with several episodes covering basically the same ground one after another.
I like that they incorporated those elements into the show, and I like the show generally. I think those episodes, even if they're weaker, do have some really nice moments in them.
But having three or four on the same basic issue wasn't really necessary.

I just don't see that complain.

The first episode introdues the conflict and Hiccup's solution.

The second deals with Gobber's personal problems (and I thought the stuff he did in the episode was hillarious and good character moments).

The third rethreads the conflict but from a different perspective, with focus on the dragons and development in the kids dynamics.

Then the fourth has no berk conflict at all, instead introducing the first of the new species and doing some drama with Hiccup and Toothless.

The Berk conflict comes back for the last time to make Mildew a clear cut dick and set Alvin's introduction.

After Alvin, they start focusing exclusively on character development.

8 episodes out of a 20 episode season. 4 spaced epsidoes to set the new status quo.

I think they couldn't be handling the issue better.

Don't get me wrong; I didn't hate those episodes or anything. I get the conflicts they introduced. I liked them.
The main complaint from /co/ is that the lessons the episodes teach are repetitive. And I can see that; they basically center around the dragons messing something up and Hiccup having to fix it.
Execution is okay. But it gets a little stale by nature.

I kind of like how they try to give the protagonist dragons beside Toothless a personality.

Though so far only Hookfang and Meatlog got clearly visible ones.

Hookfang is a bit of a ditz but clearly cares about Snoutlout even if he forgets him sometimes or uses him as object.
Meatlog seems to think of Fishleg as something like one of her children, which seems kind of fitting given his build.

Bulch and Barf just bicker like the twins, thought we don't know if that is normal for Zippelbacks.
Hookfang meanwhile... well she shoots darts, that's all she did so far.

Its like /co/ doesn't realize that for the most part, /co/ is the only group of people really watching most of those comic book themed cartoons. For the general public, if it's not Batman or Superman, it's a big fat meh. I know /co/ hates it, but Dragons has the HTTYD movie franchise to keep viewers interested, and by the time the rating slump low, the next HTTYD sequel will come out.

The entertainment industry is not owned by stuff that is "good" it is owned by stuff that SELLS. Which is how crap like Transformers can be a blockbuster and Dredd won't even make back it's budget.

That said, I never cared for ANY of the shows involved, but I know how shitty it is when your fav show gets canned or suddenly disappears from the station. The only thing I can recommend is what I've been doing for Tron Uprising and Motorcity, get as many people watching as possible, if the ratings survive a hiatus it's more likely to be kept.

Honestly, I never get any sense that Hookfang likes him. Quite the opposite, he either ignores him, doesn't care about him, or physically harms him. He seems more like he's trying to tolerate Snoutlout, then actually bonding with him.

I don't expect much from the Zipplebacks, though, seeing as how the twins are also really painfully underdevloped.

Agreed, Hookfang rather seems to see Snoutlout as a responcibility than a friend, which would explain not noticing him falling off but still saving him once he was made aware of him being missing.
Snoutloud is most likely more occupied telling everyone what a great team they are in order to immitate Hicups success than to bond with his dragon. The moment he showed how much he cares for Hookfang he right away tried to play it down, which clearly annoyed the dragon.

Also agreed the Twins could need a bit more to do. Though in terms of their dragon there is the interesting implication that it's the only thing they truely share and care about equaly rather than constantly fight about.

She clearly likes him, in the movie, and even in the show. She just doesn't move foward, same as Hiccup.

But watching him get his own dragon was great, and really gave us a sense of who he is and why he does what he does, better than the movie did, in some cases. This current episode also really helped, and it's always fun to learn about crazy shit he did as a younger man.

A flashback episode about one of Stoic and Gobber's adventures would be great. Perhaps even in the style of the Boneknapper flashback.

I actually liked his characterization in those first episodes. The guy clearly was trying to give the dragons a chance, and Hiccup oportunities to solve problems, but he is still the chief first, and he has to consider the villagers' input.

Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me.
Sadly, he isn't me.
But if he stopped being a little puss and started punching dragons with his bare hands he could seem like he's me.

Look down, back up, where are you?
You're on a longboat with the viking your man could be like.

What's that in your hand, back at me, I have it.
It's a cup made from the skull of your enemy.
Look again, the skull is now a battleaxe.

Anything is possible when your man's a viking and not a giant pussy.

He designed the cave to collapse around that one spot. And leave ONLY that spot untouched. So if the future Hiccup, like, stumbled or something, he would be fucked.

I just read summaries of the plots of the books on the HTTYD wikia and let me say......the books are the most boring pieces of shit ever. The characters are so uninteresting and everything is bad. Thank god for the Dreamworks incarnation of this book series because the actual books are just boring, unpleasant, and just outright filled with the stench of pure uninspired mediocrity.

We must be grateful for the Dreamworks take on this book series. My god, Fishlegs was a skinny (not fat) berserk hybrid that swings between reckless/brave and ball-less character making him a total tool of a plot device, Toothless was a generic common variety lamest of the lame dragon and so tiny and small that he couldn't be ridden. Alvin was essentially team rocket, a guy who constantly is "blasting off away!" after his latest scheme (complete with disguises) fails as opposed to being a viking nemesis of Stoick who was vanished for his traitorous nature, Astrid doesn't exist in the books and the only prominent female is a girl from a different clan of vikings who are all dykes (trust me this isn't Wonder Woman's Paradise Island, its the ugly version), Snotloud is Hiccup's cousin and has murderous intent because if Hiccup dies he could become the next chief of Berk, etc.

Its just bad. Purely and honestly bad. Nevermind that the focus isn't really much on the relationship between dragons and humans, but more of the interpersonal issues the viking characters face and as such becomes a tad lame. I rather like the more bonding with the dragons concept rather than worry about random lame occurrences in the boring leads.

It's a bit harder to sympathize with him when you consider that he's led a lot of people to their deaths, so that what? Someone like him in the future could have their sense of self worth be validated?

Quick question.
Who in the fuck thought this was a good idea for a tv series?

It's a middling animated feature with characters that are only watchable once and a plot that only works as a oneshot.
Only when there is no other animated cartoons out when it's in theatres can it even sell well.

If people are actually surprised that this isn't doing well then...damn.

I never liked the cliche Twins That Hate Each Other. Or worse twins who share the same personality in this case its both cliches. They hate each other and that's their defining personality. It makes them SUCK as characters. It makes you wonder, why do we need two of them? Just one suffices.

The morons in charge of writing should take a look at Gravity Falls to show how fraternal twins can truly be impressive, entertaining, and separate characters in their own right.

No, Gobber was trying to catch and kill it. Everyone else was making sure it existed, and offered no objections to the 'kill it' part. The only one who believed him was Hiccup.

You think he would have mentioned something like that in the note. Or... given any indication it happened at all.

That's because they are fraternal. Most times when shows do twins they are Monozygotic twins. Also most people don't know the difference of the two and just assume that all twins are Monozygotic.

Thechnically, ALL of those peoples were free to drop the trials at any point.

But Vikings are stubborn as fuck.

It's doing well.

Just not around /co/.

And fuck you, I love the characters and wanted to see them on more adventures since the fucking movie ended.

Fuck off.

The poem never said anything about getting your ass smushed by a giant ass hammer, though.

That is horribly misleading.

You do know that it is based on the first book in a series, right?

Spur of the moment thing.

Before that kiss, she only gave him a rather meek kiss on the cheek.

The passionate kiss on the lip happened after he had woken up form a long-ass coma.

She just reacted.

I find their characterization in the show to be perfectly in line with their overall personalities.

Also, note that the GOTNF kiss was far more private, and technically takes place AFTER the series.

They were trying to learn it's mistrery. They can't exactly be bothered about Gobber wanting to kill it when they don't even believe its actually real.

As for Toothless, chalk it up to Gobber. HE was the one that wanted to go on a journey to find it.

He was the one that decided to take a boat.

They tagged alone and chose to do things the viking way.

You sure about that? Stoick didn't have his dragon in that one.

Considering the fact that he was a Hiccup was completely lost to history, no. There probably wasn't any record.

Toothless could have fit on the boat....

Or, hell, Hookfang or one of the others could have flown next to it.

Except all those riddles and the personal note her left for the future Hiccup.

It certainly doesn't take place immediately after the movie, like the show does.

And the dragons are certainly a permanent part of the Berk society.

Hiccup is learning about them in order to integrate them in the show.

That note was never going to be found until that Hiccup came, though.

And the Vikings hardly understood the riddles.

If he left clues about dragons in there, nobody would've gotten them.

The show does have some continuity snarl with the special.

Not everything lines up, but what does suggests the special is further down the line.

Yeah, you'd think he'd go down in history as the one who had tamed dragons.
As opposed to the one who killed people with puzzles.

I meant Hamish would have left something about knowing dragons to the future Hiccup, not past stuff. Or at least alluded to them in some way. Either in the note or the riddles, or even in one of those gold statues.

But nothing indicates he knew them from what Hiccup learned.

So, they actually beat out...nothing.
From what little I've seen of CN lately they've been showing commercials for it every other break and showing it multiple times a day.

I guess since there's fuck all else on they can claim that as some small victory.

And it's quite obvious they pulled that shit because they are desperate to keep their falling ratings steady.

That we know of.

That cave probably was filled with riddles about other stuff.

The fact that Hiccup Hamish went down in history not as a Hiccup indicates that he probably never integrated in the same way Hiccup did.

IF he ever knew more about dragons than his fellow vikings, it was a secret lost to history.

Or they're just trying to kill off DC nation.

Also-
>And it's quite obvious they pulled that shit because they are desperate to keep their falling ratings steady.

Would imply that DC nation was cocking it up in the ratings, so they put an actually successful show in there to staunch the failing ratings. That's just not true, either way. It's just CN execs being dicks.
